Luxury beachfront properties in Thailand are nothing new. Thailand is a country blessed with a plethora of wonderful beaches and many foreigners as well as Thais themselves have bought homes or second homes down by the sea.
Particularly popular are Phuket, Pattaya, The Rayong Coast, Hua Hin and Koh Chang. Phuket
Phuket is an island 820 kms south of the Thai Capital Bangkok. There are many luxury beachfront properties. Infrastructure is excellent but there are many tourists. The weather can be stormy in the northern hemisphere winter. Very touristy.
Koh Samui
This is an island off the coast of the southern province of Surat Thani. It was “discovered” by backpackers in the 1970s and 80s and has grown to be a major international tourism destination. These days Samui has almost as many amenities as Phuket except for advanced retail.
Pattaya
Pattaya rests on the Gulf of Thailand about 125 kms from Bangkok on the eastern seaboard. It is famed for its nightlife and eclectic attractions that appeal to Thais and westerners alike. Once cruelly labelled “Sin City” the modern Pattaya has rebranded itself as a world class resort
The Rayong Coast
Rayong is situated on the eastern seaboard is the next province along from Chonburi where Pattaya resides. This has great stretches of beaches far less touristy than Phuket, Samui or Pattaya however debris blown in off the sea can detract from the natural beauty. It does have a good Northern Hemisphere winter climate that is dry and not too hot.
Koh Chang
This island in Trat near the Cambodian border in the east has beautiful beaches and a laid back feel. Weather is stormy in the middle months of the year and accessibility is via a ferry with an airport on the mainland. Full of tourists at Christmas and New Year.
Hua Hin
About 200 kms south of Bangkok on the Gulf is Hua Hin, which has a sleepy seaside town feel. Infrastructure has improved markedly in recent years with many Westerners choosing to retire here due to excellent golf, restaurants and hospitals..
Nakhon Si Thammarat
This really is a jewel of the south, the province next to Surat Thani and a setting-off point for Samui. Sichon, one of its pristine beaches, is listed as one of Lonely Planet’s Top Ten. This is just 35 minutes from the city of Nakhon Si Thammarat and can also be accessed by a short 45-minute speedboat hop from the island.
This up-and-coming area is home to four-bedroom/six-bathroom luxury pool villas both single and two-storey and features resorts with spa, communal pool, function rooms and landscaped gardens.
