Early and personal life

Mandhana was born on 18 July 1996 in a Marwari Hindu family in Mumbai Maharashtra, India. As she grew up in a Marathi family, she can fluently speak the Marathi language. When she was 2 years old, her family hailed from Madhavnagar, Sangli, Maharashtra. There she completed her schooling. She has cricketing skills in her blood, as her father and both played cricket at the district level for Sangli. She got inspired by her brother to play cricket by watching her brother play at the Maharashtra State under-16s tournament.

When she was 9 years old, she got selected in Maharashtra under-15 team. After that, at the age of 11, she was chosen as a player for the Maharashtra under-19s team. Indeed, her family is closely involved in her cricketing activities. Her father Shrinivas Mandhana by profession is a chemical distributor and takes care of her cricket programme. Her mother Smita takes care of her diet. After that, her brother still bowls to her in the nets.

Domestic career of Smriti Mandhana Husband

She got her revolution in October 2013, when she turned out to be the first Indian woman to accomplish a double hundred in the one-day game. She played for Maharashtra against Gujarat, where she banged an unbeaten 224 off 150 balls at the Alembic Cricket Ground in Vadodara. Mandhana scored three half-centuries for India Red, in the 2016 Women’s Challenger trophy. She backed her team in winning the trophy by building an undefeated 62 off 82 balls in the final against India Blue. As she scored a total of 192 runs, she emerged as the tournament’s top scorer.

In 2018, she signed for Kia Super League defending champions Western Storm, and she became the first Indian to play in the league.  In the inaugural women’s premier league auction in 2023, she was purchased by Royal Challengers Bangalore for ₹3.4 crore. Moreover, she became the highest-bid player in the auction and was also elected as the captain of the team. Under her captaincy, RCB won their maiden WPL title in 2024.

Smriti Mandhana’s International Career

She played her first test match at Wormsley Park against England, in August 2014. She contributed to winning her team’s victory by scoring 22 and 51 in her first and second innings respectively. In the later innings, in order to chase 182 runs, she made a partnership with Thirush Kamini for 76 runs. In India’s tour of Australia in 2016, in the second ODI game, she scored her maiden international hundred 102 of 109 balls.  She was the only Indian player to be named to the ICC Women’s Team of the Year, in 2016. She missed the World Cup qualifier due to an injury recovery period. After that, she started the World Cup with a 19 against England in Derby. She assisted her team win by 35 runs and was titled the player of the match.

In addition, she was a part of the Indian team to reach the final of the women’s cricket World Cup 2017, but the team lost to England by nine runs. She also holds the record for the fastest 50 for India in women’s T20 international of just 24 against New Zealand in 2019. Plus, she became the third cricketer for India to score 1000 runs in WT20I matches. She was the captain of the India women’s T-20 International squad for three matches against England in 2019. Evidently, she won the International Woman Cricketer of the Year award at CEAT International Cricket Award in 2019.
