The great thing about a holiday in Manila, the vibrant capital of the Philippines, is the large number of exciting day trips that can be accomplished within easy reach of the city. 

Why not hire a car at the many rental shops or even a motorbike or commandeer your own jeepney for the day especially if you have a large party. Leave the luxury of your Manila 5 star hotel behind for a few hours and venture out into the Luzon countryside for trips that will inspire and delight.

  1. Top of our list are the stunning views of Taal Volcano and Taal Lake where you can visit the People’s Park in the Sky and explore the myriad of local markets and cafes. It is approximately one and a half to two hours by car. Taal Lake is the third largest lake in the country with a volcanic island in the middle – breathtaking!
  2. Pagsanjan Falls – around two to three hours away by road you can take a boat ride at your location through scenic river gorges on the way to the memorable and majestic falls. It’s a thrilling adventure that will take you out of your comfort zone.
  3. Taal Heritage Town – take a trip back in time to the Philippines’ Spanish colonial past. Visit the Taal Basilica and stroll through the historical streets that are just two hours away by car. The baroque basilica is the largest church in Asia.
  4. Corregidor island – this is an island fortress that was strategic in World War Two and played an important part in the history of the Philippines. It’s just an hour away from the city by ferry so ideal for an afternoon jaunt into the past.
  5. Beaches within easy reach of Manila are aplenty – at Batangas you can enjoy diving in Anilao or tour the breathtaking countryside. two to three hours away.
  6. Subic Bay – relax at the beach or visit Ocean Adventure and Zoobic Safari – a two-hour jaunt from downtown Manila.
  7. Antipolo – highlights of a trip to this beautiful spot less than two hours drive by car is the Antipolo Cathedral which opened in 1632. Or you can enjoy the panoramic views at the Hinulugang Taktak Falls. Art buffs will enjoy the local art galleries.
  8. Enchanted Kingdom – especially fun for families is this popular theme park an hour and a half away. It’s the only Disney-style world class theme park in the Philippines.
  9. Rizal’s Towns – visit historical sites in this area like the Rizal Monument where Philippine hero Jose Rizal is entombed. Again less than two hours by road from Manila.
  10. Finally La Union is a full-day trip three to four hours from downtown. Here you can relax at the beaches of San Juan. The distance may make a hotel package ideal here.
