Why Get A Cat If You Already Have A Dog?

Pets are an incredible source of joy and companionship in our lives; they provide unconditional love, comfort, and countless gorgeous memories. If you’re already a dog owner, you might not have thought about getting a cat as well, but the fact is that having both cats and dogs in the house can be a good idea – there are a number of reasons why you should do it. With that in mind, keep reading to find out why you might want to get a cat if you already have a dog, and you might just be tempted.

Double The Love

Having both a dog and a cat means experiencing the best of both worlds when it comes to love and affection and having good companionship at all times. Dogs are known for being ‘man’s best friend’, but cats can be fantastic pets too, and although they have a reputation for being rather aloof, they can also be incredibly friendly; there’s nothing quite like having a purring cat curled up on your lap while you relax in the evening.

Plus, although cats and dogs are thought to be natural enemies, they really don’t have to be. They can get on really well, and if you have a dog and are worried it might be lonely, but don’t have the space for another dog, getting a cat (which will generally be much smaller than a dog) is a great option that will keep everyone happy.

Encourage Exercise And Playfulness

Both dogs and cats need regular exercise to stay healthy and have a good, balanced lifestyle. While dogs often need more active play and outdoor time, cats can also benefit from playing, and if the two play together, that’s wonderful – they’ll be getting plenty of exercise and stay healthy, and you won’t have to be quite so involved (although you’ll still want to take your dog for walks and play with both pets as this is good for them and also helps you to bond).

Remember, though, that the more active your pets are, the more potential there is for an accident, so you need to make sure there aren’t any hazards in the house and garden and always have good pet insurance for multiple pets in place; just in case something goes wrong.

Good For Your Family

Bringing a cat into a home that already has a dog can make everyone’s lives better, no matter who lives there. The two animals can co-exist, but you might need to train them to help get them used to one another, and this is something you can do as a family, so it’s an ideal way to bond together while you’re also helping your pets bond and get along more easily.

Plus, dogs are generally loud and energetic creatures that are always on the move, and they can be quite exhausting for everyone. When you have a cat as well, the dog might be calmer. Cats are naturally quiet and calm (for the most part), and this can help to soothe the dog, or at least reduce quite how boisterous it can be, and that’s a much easier way to live.
